Asking AI to write something amazing is a little like asking someone to bring you that thing over there. They can be perfectly willing to help and still have no idea what you mean. Before adding another grand instruction, look at what is missing from the brief.
Information needs design too
Anthropic uses context engineering to describe selecting and organising the information available to a model. That includes instructions, documents and conversation history. Its explanation highlights a useful limitation: adding more content does not guarantee better results; relevance matters. Anthropic · Context engineering
Let’s try a coffee shop
Imagine you are announcing a coffee shop. You could start with write a nice post. Or you could prepare a specific brief: a neighbourhood café opens on Sundays, sells freshly baked bread and wants to welcome its neighbours. The text is for Instagram, should fit in a few lines and must not invent promotions.
Before asking for a better answer, give it a clearer brief.
Here is our small exercise: write down who it is for, what you need and which facts are real. Add a tone example if you have one. Then read the result yourself. A good brief guides the conversation, but dates, prices and promises still need someone to check them.
